Artist Statement
Creation: A Simple Act with Profound Consequences
Communion with earth, sun, sky, spirit. Change is a constant. Everything is always in a state of transition. Structure. Development. Life. Mind. The world has a natural tendency to generate complexity, synthesis, insight, life and awareness. The universe is constantly constituting itself and creating consciousness. And life, in turn, uses consciousness perceive and appreciate the universe.
Perspective. Experience. Inquiry. Awareness. By contemplating the horizon, and the infinite beyond the horizon, we can sense the the eternal and the divine.
We come into contact with deeper reality by way of natural reality, by way of things immediate to our experience. Our experience of the universe is mediated and expressed through nature and through creation. We can seek and find meaning and understanding. Reflect and construct reality. Recognize the rythym and directionality of creation Appreciate and produce higher degrees of awareness, sentience, perception, integration, consciousness and freedom.
While involved in our work and play, we can strive to realize that there is always something more. Beyond nature there is a horizon of infinity. When we do not try to escape from nature, we travel with nature into the infinite. Rather than just the context of our existence, nature is a fellow traveler in evolution.
We live in an unfinished universe. Its further development depends on our willingness to actively participate in the evolution of consciousness. We can open to influencing evolution, to promoting development of consciousness. We can realize what we can do to improve things, to create love and understanding.
Paint, mediums and grounds are made from and contain natural elements along with more complex elements synthesized from natural elements. In painting we can use these elements, guided by openness, awareness and insight, to create work which, inspires, or, at its best, forces, the viewer toward questioning, awareness, insight, and understanding, ... and in this way to influence and promote the evolution of consciousness.
